Season of the Witch (1972)

Jack's Wife

Jack's Wife (1973) was George A. Romero's follow up to "There's Always Vanilla" is an interesting film and highly underrated. The movie is about a lonely, WASPish housewife that has nothing to do in life. She's tired of her mundane existence and wants to have fun with her life. Faced with the fear of growing old, tiring of her housewife friends, social dinners and not being able to understand her daughter, she turns to dabbling in witchcraft. Jan White is Jack's Wife, a label put upon her by the couple's social friends. She's not Joan, simply Jack's Wife. There are several interesting characters in this film. One of them is Greg, a student professor (Ray Laine, a hold over from Romero's last film). He makes references to the "Graduate" whenever he encounters Joan. What I enjoy about this film is how Romero captures Middle America, and the mundane existence many of these women must feel. (IMDB Miyagis_Sweaty_wifebeater) V&D
